Ismay Ponde

Lady Ismay Ponde dwells in the Shire of Misty Highlands. She came into the Society in the Barony of the Far West (in Seoul, Korea) in 1987. There she earned the Order of the Empty Shell for her service to the barony. She also met Count Jehan de la Marche. After her duty in the barony was finished, she returned to her family in the Kingdom of Caid, but after several years she came to AEthelmearc in 1995 to marry the count. They went to Caid in 2003 to be near her father, and there she received an Award of Arms and took up the practice of illumination, having been devoted to drawing and painting since childhood. In 2005, she and the count returned to AEthelmearc where she first displayed her illumination at the War Practice Artisans’ Forum in 2006, where she received the Autocrat’s Choice from Master Remus. She became an illuminator in the service of the Signet and won notice for her Mongol scrolls in the reign of King Khalek and Queen Branwyn. She was awarded the Order of the Sycamore for her skill at illumination in 2008, and she continues to practice that skill for the creation of scrolls for the kingdom, to which she has lately added the calligraphy as well as the illumination. She has also taught classes in sources for Asian illumination. In addition to her work as an illuminator, she can play the harp by ear, and practices sewing and cooking for the support of her lord and his numerous and hungry household. Carol A. Leland has retired after over twenty years in the US Armed Services, during which she served in Okinawa and Korea among other places. She now devotes herself to her art and to the care and feeding of her husband and six extremely spoiled cats.
