Katryne of Bakestondone
Baroness Katryne of Bakestondone is a member of Hus Faerhaga, squire to Earl Yngvar the Dismal, a member of Caer Cinniuint, and presently lives in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. She began her life in the
SCA in Northern Atlantia where she was Apprenticed to Dame Aislynn of Jarrow. From the very beginning Katryne was interested in authenticity and developing a broad range of skills. She used her modern knowledge of computers to create easy to understand pictorial
tutorials for such projects as making cloth buttons and minimum wastage Norman tunics
After moving to AEthelmearc in 1999, Katryne began exploring embroidery. She studied with Duchess Meirwen uerch Owein and counts her as a strong influence on her artistic style and quality. After finding the modern suppliers of embroidery floss to be disappointing and boring she decided that she would learn to spin and would spin and dye her own embroidery floss. Other interests and projects include weaving trim, felting, cooking, garb, period design and ornamentation by time and region, research into service in the great households, embroidered award regalia, illumination, and calligraphy.
Some of her work may be seen here .
