Alison of the Many Isles

Alison was born knowing how to sew and do needlework. There was never a time when she wasn't doing them! She joined the SCA in 1988 and began doing Heraldic banners and tabards for heralds and marshalls in the East Kingdom, and soon after for the Principality of Æthelmearc. She had great fun learning how to do applique as it would have been done in the 12th to 15th centuries. The techniques have changed somewhat to modern day, but not all that much.

She has made tabards for three Kingdom Heralds, several Baronial Heralds, countless numbers of Banners and many Peerage cloaks! She also produced banners for the Great Officers of our faire Kingdom of AEthelmearc.

Her needleworking skills have been used to make award medallions, scrolls, gifts for Princesses, Queens, prizes and gift baskets over the years. Classes taught include making banners, heraldic applique, smocking, embroidery, autocratting events, and cooking too. Her pursuit of knowledge pleases her the most knowing she is helping to keep the ancient arts alive and well!
