Ariella of Thornbury
Ariella of Thornbury lives north of Pittsburgh with her husband and 3 children, Joshua, Leah and Ian. Though majoring in Biology at Williams College, she loved the art history and architecture courses. On their honeymoon in 1994, she and her husband, Byron of Haverford (Char Branstetter), enjoyed time at Thornbury Castle and Chepstow Castle in England and found English castles to be the most romantic part of the trip. At that time they decided one of their dreams was to have an English medieval castle some day. After a second trip to England to visit more castles, Byron and Ariella decided to find the SCA their medical school tutor had mentioned. Upon moving to Pittsburgh for residency, Byron and Ariella joined the SCA and focused on training and having children for several years. In 2002 they flew an architect to England with them to see Bodiam and Penshurst castles as part of making their dream a reality. Byron and Ariella love living in their castle, with as much of it appearing to be from Southern England in 1385 as possible, but realize there is much more to do, make and learn.
