Many of the common games we play date back not only asfar as the Middle Ages, but often as far back as Ancient Rome and Greece. Neglecting work for play is a phenomenon that has always been with us as demonstrated by numerous historical royal edicts forbidding soldiers from playing bowling, horseshoes and darts until archery scores improved.
