Clicking an Email link causes my computer to open an email program. What if I don't want to open the email program and just want the actual email address?

All of the email addresses open up the default email program when clicked. If you are using a web based email (such as gmail) then Do Not Left-Click the link. Right-Click the link to bring up the contextual menu. Move the arrow down to the option Copy email address. Go to Gmail (or other web based service) and start a new email. In the TO: header paste in the email address.

What's the funny blue symbol with the arrow next to some of the links?

Links with this symbol will open up a new tab/window in your browser. The page you originated from will remain open.

Do I really need Javascript turned on to use this site?

Currently JavaScript needs to be active for the many parts of the site to function. In time I intend to recreate these pages so that they will degrade gracefully and fully function if javascript is turned off.

Why do the mail and the external icons end up in funny places in Internet Explorer?

Cause it's Internet Explorer…

Do I have to have some type of award in order to list an interest?

No, this is a listing of whatever you are interested in, no matter what your skill level is. It's meant to help get people with similar interests in contact with each other.
