Policies of the KINGDOM MINISTER OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

It is the responsibility of this office to ensure that anyone wishing
to study, teach, demonstrate, display, or practice an art or science
of the Middle Ages has the opportunity to do so.

We support and encourage the organization of educational opportunities
such as classes, workshops, guilds, demonstrations, publications, forums,
displays and competitions, to promote the interaction and communication
of artisans and scholars within our society.

Information regarding demos is shared with the Chatelaine.

- REQUIREMENTS OF THE KINGDOM OFFICE
- Know and understand Corpora and Kingdom Laws.
- Report Quarterly to the Society A&S Officer.
- Report on the state of this office including a Roster at Curia and
Coronation.
- Designate an emergency deputy, Regional deputies, and Aecademy
Chancellor.
- Maintain a Roster of all A&S Officers in the Kingdom.
- May recognize one new Fellow of the Aecademy per Reign.
- REQUIREMENTS OF THE LOCAL A&S OFFICER

Meet the age and membership requirements as set forth in Corpora and
Kingdom Law. Receive the Aestel.

Group officers are required to maintain files, answer correspondence,
have a designated emergency deputy, comply with Corpora and Kingdom
Law, and file quarterly reports, via your regional deputy, with the Kingdom MOAS.

Reporting dates are March 1, June 1, Sept. 1, and December 1.
Officers who fail to report twice consecutively may be removed from
office. The deputy or group Seneschal will be expected to report until
the group selects a new officer. Officers with consistently late or
poor reports may have action taken toward them.

You are required to report on at least two workshops every year
within your group, as well as conduct at least one A&S display or
competition during one of your group's yearly events or meetings.
Group projects are also encouraged.

Local A&S officers are selected by their group. To be officially
rostered to your post, you must submit a letter to the KMoAS, via your regional deputy,
of your
group's decision, containing at a minimum: your group's name, your SCA
and legal names, mailing address, a statement that you have been elected
the local A&S officer, a copy of your Kingdom newsletter mailing
label, and proof of membership. Also a letter from both the previous
A&S officer and the local seneschal. This letter should reflect
that you are, in fact, the newly selected officer. You will remain the
rostered A&S officer for your local group until the Kingdom MOAS, via your regional deputy,
receives a letter of your resignation or letters that install your
replacement.
- REQUIREMENTS OF THE KINGDOM DEPUTIES

There is a deputy for each region in the Kingdom. Deputies will meet
the requirements listed above for local A&S officers. They keep a
roster of local officers within their region.

Regional deputies serve as a line of communication between the KMOAS
and the local groups. They will collect reports from their region to
pass on to the KMoAS. They shall be required to support the
organization of educational opportunities, instruct on the local level,
and bring any unresolved difficulties to the attention of this office
for resolution. Further, they may be called upon to represent this
office in the event that the Kingdom MOAS cannot attend an event in
that region.

Other deputies may be appointed on an as-needed basis. Deputies may be
appointed to act as a guild liaison, compile a directory of A&S
teachers and their subjects, assist in the publication of an A&S
newsletter, etc.

A Web Minister will be appointed to administer the A&S web site.
- POLICIES OF THE ĘTHELMEARC ĘCADEMY
The Ęcademy shall serve the populace by providing a forum whereby the
populace may teach and learn, disseminate research through
publications, discussions and displays of arts and sciences. It will
be an educational resource by maintaining teacher and class lists that
local scholas may call upon. It may publish a proceedings and maintain
a web page. It will host educational events that rotate throughout the
Kingdom.

There will be one session of the Ęcademy per reign. One session is in
the Kingdom Rotation, during the summer reign. The preferred date of
this session is the third weekend of June and must be approved by the
Royalty and Kingdom Seneschal per Article VIII of Kingdom Law. The
other session of the Ęcademy will be held during the winter reign. The
preferred date of this session will be in November. Preferrably this
session will be held in a region opposite the previous or subsequent
session. This session will follow the same rules as for all other
local-level events scheduled in the kingdom.

The Kingdom-level session will rotate through the 5 regions, beginning
with Region 1 in June of 2002. The winter session will also rotate but
has no set schedule.

Officers of the Ęcademy
- Chancellor
- A deputy to the Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences and
is appointed by the KMoAS with approval of the Crown. Makes reports
after each session and before Curia to the KMoAS. Keeps track of
teachers and classes in Ęthelmearc. Keeps track of rotation of sessions
around the regions.
- Provost
- Emergency deputy to the Chancellor, appointed by the Chancellor
with approval of the KMoAS.
- Regents
- Also regional deputies to the Kingdom Minister of Arts and
Sciences and are appointed by the KMoAS. Assist the Chancellor in keeping track of teachers and classes in their region.
- Dean of the War College
- Appointed by the Chancellor with approval of the KMoAS. Arranges
for teachers in the Martial areas.
- Ęcademy Web Minister
- Appointed by the Chancellor with approval of the KMoAS.
Administers the Aecademy web page.
Further details and responsibilities of all officers are outlined in
the Ęcademy Handbook.

Ęcademy Funds and Expenses -- Funds shall be held by the Kingdom
Exchequer with a cap of $1,200.00. Funds exceeding that amount may roll
over first to the Arts and Sciences Office and second to the Historians
Offices with a cap of $500.00 each. Once those caps are reached funds
go into the general fund. Expenses include funds for management of the
website, publication costs of proceedings, teacher honnorariums,
student/teacher evaluation forms, teacher thank you's, office expenses.
Requests for reimbursement will be channeled through the KMoAS as per
the Kingdom Exchequers policies.

Ęcademy Fees -- Per Kingdom Law the Kingdom rotation session is a
Kingdom Fundraiser with a suggested donation by the hosting group of
50% of the profits earmarked for the Ęcademy. The Ęcademy will not
collect any other fees for this session. For the session not on the
Kingdom Rotation, a donation to the AEcademy may be discussed with the
hosting group, but is not a requirement.
For each of these sessions the local Exchequer of the group sponsoring
the session will file an Event Financial report with the Kingdom
Exchequer and the Chancellor, recording the amount the hosting group is
donating to the Ęcademy within 30 days of the event.
